Last week we mentioned the beginning of summer. At least that’s what the calendar indicates …the longest day. However the weather gods this week decided to play a few games. Two days ago we received 100 mm of rain. Yesterday our high was about 15C. It was interesting to note points inside the Arctic Circle were warmer. They didn’t have a tornado touch down though. We did, a bit east of here. Exciting times!

In other ways we’re getting back to more usual activity. Farmers markets have opened. It’s like going to the grocery store. Distancing rules. Masks in place. We persevere and strive to keep going. Adverse conditions have an impact. From this vantage point they underscore the value of close ties. Family, whether by blood or by choice, is important.

That brings us to gathering places. Places for family. There have been data showing what some call ‘second home’ market strengthening. By that it refers to homes out of the GTA, many in cottage country, whether waterfront or not. Interest, demand and sales have been more intense and stronger than we have seen in a while. Our take is for an increasing number, it’s not a second home purchase at all. It’s a primary residence purchase.

With COVID, people have been working from home. They are learning one does not have to commute to get the job done. As long as internet connects, work can be done in place. They ask the question, why don’t I work from a place I would want to live as opposed to a place where I thought I had to live?

BINGO! The question is… And where would you want to live?

If your answer includes cleaner air, less traffic, easier access to year round outdoor activity, water sports, snow sports and great walks. Then take a look at Muskoka, Parry Sound and Haliburton. As a primary residence location, for many, the attractions and the costs suit.
