September, to our way of thinking, is one of the nicest months in Muskoka. The days are warm, nights cool (very nice for an evening by the fire pit) and the lakes are quiet. Along the shore, the number of lights twinkling across the lake has diminished. An evening cruise with the pink and purple glow of setting sun is exquisite.
Comforting scent of woodsmoke occasionally augments the calm of watching stars appear against the backdrop of an indigo sky. Landforms take shape without cottage and boathouse lights. The land seems softer, more relaxed and better defined, its shaded colours blending into dusk. Loon calls laugh from shore to shore.
If you get a chance to make it to the lake during a week in September, Muskoka reverts to magnificent solitude at night. By dawn, she dances in the veil of shining mists that swirl and eddy with warming breezes. It’s a very special time of year.
