There’s an axiom in cottage country. The bigger the lake, the more expensive the land.

It’s pretty simple, really. The bigger the lake, the more options you have. Lakes like the chain of Fairy, Vernon and Peninsula, the Big 3 of Muskoka, Rosseau and Joseph and Lake of Bays all offer destinations. On those lakes restaurants, shops, golf and medical services can be reached by boat.

Whether it’s the destination or the journey, bigger lakes offer more variety. They also have more traffic – especially in the areas where commercial activity is found. Knowing and understanding the rules of marine navigation is important. Safety matters.

This week we’ve spent a lot of time on the water. It’s pretty obvious there are folks who are not as familiar with the rules as they could be. Give others a wide berth. Be safe!
