It’s here! The last long weekend of the summer. We have a warm week leading up to it too! In fact, records are being set as we speak. Night time temperatures in Muskoka are staying warm. The lakes are not cooling yet. They might even be getting warmer.
Some years, nights have had their cooling effect and the lakes start to moderate. It often makes swimming a little refreshing for this weekend. But not this year! In fact we’re seeing algae develop in shallow bays around Muskoka. It’s really a symptom of the warm water. Unlike other plant forms, some algae produce oxygen. Although it might look unsightly, the thinking is algae helped to make the earth habitable.
Some cottagers start closing up around Labour Day, others wait for Thanksgiving. For some it’s the last time for close up. We know a number who are leaving the lake. Sad, but time does come to an end. The upside is some new owners will be very happy.
For us, September is the nicest time of year. Warm days, usually cool nights, clear air and open water. Trees start to turn. It’s a wonderful time to be in cottage country, whether you’re on the water, enjoying dock time or going for a walk in the woods. Bugs are not to be found!
One thing you’ll find if you’re on Walker’s Point is pancakes. The Marina welcomes one and all for fresh pancakes. Fun all weekend!
You’ll note that price changes are happening and new listings are coming to market. Fall is a busy time. Coming and going. I think of it as a changing of the guard. Fall is a good time to sell and buy.
