COVID 19 is having an effect on how we operate in a number of ways. Today grocery outlets in Muskoka instituted a much more regimented and controlled way of negotiating the store. Probably the same where you live too. There are barriers between customers and check out staff to prevent droplets from migrating. None of the barriers I’ve seen has been erected to account for people over 6′ in height though. These send a reminder to those of us above that height to duck as many of us do daily to look in the bathroom mirror, constrained by low light fixtures.

From a real estate perspective, we have protocols to maintain social distancing as well as disinfecting properties being shown. For those who feel uncomfortable making the trek to see property and prefer to shelter in place, we can do the same as we have successfully for Buyers from away. Over the years we have acted for Buyers from Australia, UK, Belgium, Spain, China and the US (as well as Canada) who have been unable to set foot on the property they have purchased until after it has closed. In fact, Lucy and I bought a home in Oakville almost 25 years ago when I was working in Hong Kong. We bought it without walking the land. We understand the challenges distance brings. Technology has improved since then and the experience can be rewarding.

We show property ‘live’ with phone apps and send videos. Many properties today have floor plans and 360 degree shots of rooms to enable a better perspective. This kind of technology is a boon to sellers too. Their properties can be marketed without health risks and constantly being nervous about disinfecting.

For those who have cottages, we’re seeing people choosing to be remote in a place they love best, where family memories are made (and kept). If you’re thinking of coming up to be distant, please remember our stores are not yet gearing for seasonal influx. Bring foodstuffs with you.

The Cottage Life Show has been cancelled this year. Let us be your show – as far as property is concerned. Questions? Properties you want to see? Let us know. We’re happy to be your feet on the ground and your eyes and ears on video.

Be safe!
