With temps in the high 20’s and humidity taking the ‘feel’ of the day even higher, this Labour Day’s experience in Muskoka was more like mid-summer. In some parts even the lake wasn’t all that refreshing. Swimming from the boat in the deep was the way to go if you wanted to cool off. Off course, there’s always dock time, or sitting in the Muskoka room with your favourite beverage. It’s all part of life at the cottage.

We’re guessing there was less work done than planned as many wanted to take advantage of a cottage country summer weekend. We know we were among them!
Unlike other years where fire bans have been in effect, our Muskoka forests don’t appear to be suffering as they might. Crowns are full, leaves appear shiny and lush. The rains of the last 3 weeks have done their job.
The interesting thing to observe, leaves are changing. Fall is in the offing. It’s not because of frost – we haven’t had any. Cold doesn’t seem to stimulate the seasonal change. It must be light and the amount of it we get each day. We certainly notice nights are longer. And leaves are beginning to show promise of their show to come in 3 weeks or so…
But why dwell on something like that when we’re now into one of the best months of the year. Cooler nights, warm days, no bugs. If you haven’t done this before, think of taking a day off midweek and come up. Traffic’s light. You’ll arrive in no time. A few hours on the dock or snoozing in the hammock. Instant vacation! A wonderful way to be!
