Everyone has their own opinion when asked what the best time to buy a home is. Maybe it depends on local market fluctuations, their own personal experiences, the times of year when the market is known to be the busiest (spring!) or really, maybe their answer is “any time”. But did you know there’s a time of year that is consistently the best time to buy, when buyers are faced with less competition and might even be lucky enough to get a better price than they would otherwise?
Why is Christmas the best time to buy a home? The answer is pretty much for the same reasons that at first thought, Christmas seems like the worst time for buying a home – few people are looking to buy a home or sell a home during Christmas. It’s hectic. They’re busy with families or vacations and have other things on their mind. This means far less competition from other buyers during your search.
But there are other benefits to buying at this time of year as well: Sellers are more likely to be in a generous mood and be more receptive to your offer, while anyone who is selling their home during Christmas is probably under pressure to get the home sold for a variety of reasons.
While most people are shopped-out during the holidays, it’s never a bad idea to consider that time of year when it comes to home shopping.
